Greetings from Gulu![/

Greetings from Uganda!

The second term of school has started.  We have a new headmaster, Philip Okech, at SoG Christian Academy. We now have ten teachers, several of whom have degrees in education.  Because it is now rainy season, our teachers will add to the schedule, classes in agriculture.

Also we are expecting the next two months to be filled with visitors from the States.  Our sending church, Wilmer First Baptist, raised funds for a prefabricated building to be sent over from the States for a new set of classrooms at SoG in Gulu.  They are also sending three consecutive teams over to prepare the foundation and erect the school.  The container is now (May 31st) on the border of Uganda and expected to arrive in Kampala tomorrow.  Our prayer is that the Lord will make a way for the clearing agent to clear it in customs and we can then put it on a truck to arrive in Gulu before Sunday.  Our first team arrives Sunday!  Is that tight or what????

The obstacle we face is that tax laws have changed (they changed after the container was shipped).  The new laws open the door for the Government to tax any and all of the container including the cost of shipping it!!!  The percentage is 53%, meaning that if they decided to they can ask for $22,000 in taxes.  But we Praise our Lord that He is bigger than any government and so we have lifted this up to Him.  Please join us in prayer for this to be cleared and arrive on time.

Our school in Kitgum, Faith Academy, is going so well.  We are amazed at the progress the students and the teachers have made since the beginning of the year (Feb.). Please also continue to pray for land so that we can have a permanent place for our school and the children.  This affects the teachers too because they need to have the security that the school will go on and grow.

Our children at Faith Academy in Kitgum.

One of the little children at Faith Academy, named Geoffrey, missed several days of school last week.  His family attends a church there near the school, and Geoffrey’s older sister approached the pastor asking for help.  She wanted 3000 shillings ($1.50) because her mother was sick and they had no food, they had slept hungry.  So the pastor, Alex, and some other members of the church took up a collection of some food items; posho, beans, onions and some few shillings and took it to the family.  The father had died a year ago of Aids and the mother was now very sick in the latter stages of this horrible disease.  She has six children and no family.  Her concern is that when she dies who will care for the children?  We are so humbled by the massive problems that people in this northern region face daily as they attempt to survive. This is only one of many situations like this and it is the result of the horrendous insurgency that took place here for 20 years.

Please join us in prayer as we continue to minister to the people the love of God in their lives so that they may have hope.  Pray and give as the on-going work of the Lord needs equipping by the saints, (2 Corinthians 9).

And we praise God for His love and provision through all of you who so faithfully pray and encourage us.

Pray without ceasing.

In Jesus’ Name,

Keith and Lisa
